Mallorca vs Barcelona, Final Score: Barca ends their winning streak with a stunning victory
Barcelona have ended their streak of winning three games in a row in La Liga strongly and look set to stay top of the table for another week thanks to an impressive 5-1 win against Mallorca at Son Moix on Tuesday evening. Barca were the better team from start to finish against a Mallorca side who put up a strong fight for the first 70 minutes of the game, but the tide turned in the end and Barca earned all three points on the road with their best team performance in over a month that won over the fans and the general public.
First Half
Barca faced a storm early on as Mallorca started with a lot of intensity and got into some dangerous situations in the opening minutes, but the Blaugrana did a great job of maintaining their offside trap and not allowing the home side any real chances
The Blaugrana slowly but surely established their superiority by dominating the ball, and took an early lead thanks to a very, very big mistake from the Mallorca defence that allowed Ferran Torres to score the easiest goal ever. The Catalans got a nice boost after the opening goal and produced an even better performance, with Alejandro Balde and Raphinha combining well on the left wing and providing the most danger on that side, which was outstanding.
But the lack of efficiency shown up front in recent matches came back to haunt the visitors as Barca continued to waste chance after chance, with Ferran showing a very poor game in front of goal and both Dani Olmo and Lamine Yamal unable to convert promising attacks into scoring chances due to some poor decision-making in the final third as well.
Mallorca tried to create a golden opportunity on the counter and were denied by Barca's offside trap, but with two minutes left in the half, Pablo Maffeo was able to time his run just right and was given a free pass into the box where he gave Vedat Muriqi the easiest tap-in of the game to score an unexpected equaliser.
Rafinha then had a great one-on-one chance to put Barca ahead again just before halftime, but he couldn't find a way to beat the goalkeeper and missed another big chance for the away side. The halftime whistle marked the end of a period when Barca had dominated and should have been ahead by several goals, but the game was evenly contested throughout the final 45 minutes, yet the tie was even.
Second Half
Barca continued to play great football from the start of the second half and scored a crucial second goal within 10 minutes: Johan Mojica brought down Yamal in the box and Rafinha scored a superb penalty to give the visitors the lead again.
Mallorca responded well by coming from behind again and launching another powerful attack for another equaliser, but the Blaugrana's offside trap had given the hosts several potential scoring chances.
The home side started to gain real momentum in search of another goal, but Barca launched three explosive attacks in the space of 10 minutes: first Yamal made a wonderful assist for Rafinha's second goal of the night, then Frenkie de Jong scored his first goal after coming off the bench and assisting Pau Victor, who rejoined the scoring party to make it 5-1 for the visitors.
Yamal, who was desperate to score in the last minute, missed a huge chance in the dying minutes as Barca could have easily scored a sixth goal but had to settle for five at the final whistle, although they looked very disappointed to have only managed three points in a very impressive fashion.
Well done, boys and my dear teammates!
